Urbandale student apprehended after bringing weapon to school Tuesday

Law enforcement confiscated the gun and apprehended the student shortly after informing administration of the possible situation.

URBANDALE, Iowa — An Urbandale High School student brought an unloaded gun to school grounds Tuesday, according to an Urbandale Community School District statement.

Law enforcement confiscated the gun and apprehended the student shortly after informing administration of the possible situation, the district said.

"The student involved did not make threats toward any students or staff at the high school nor was the weapon displayed during school," the statement reads in part.

It has not been confirmed whether the school went into a lockdown during the incident.

The student will face "disciplinary actions per Board Policy" for bringing a weapon to school.

The district said it can't share anything else about the incident, citing student record privacy laws.
