Though he's originally from Sioux City, Dan Corey did most his growing up in central Iowa.
Corey joined Local 5 News in December, 2015, as a news and sports reporter and producer. In April, 2016, he also began anchoring sports for the CW Iowa News at 9 PM on weekends.
Corey attended Roosevelt Elementary in Ames then moved to Boone and then graduated high school as a Toreador. He then went on to college at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge to study radio broadcasting (88.1 The Point rocks), later finishing at Morningside College in Sioux City with a bachelors degree in Mass Communications.
He began his broadcasting career announcing Boone High freshman baseball games and eventually called Boone High basketball games on a local radio station. While at Iowa Central, Corehelped manage the Iowa Central Collegian and was the Sports Director at 88.1 The Point.
At Morningside, Corey called Mustang games on the college radio station and TV station and also hosted the weekly “Dan Corey’s Sports Story” on the college TV station.
He began his TV career at KTIV, the NBC affiliate in Sioux City. After time in Sioux City,he moved to the "Frozen Tundra" in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and worked as the Assistant Sports Director at WDAZ-TV. In North Dakota, Corey covered plenty of hockey, including a Frozen Four.
Corey is happy to be back in central Iowa where it is much warmer and covering the teams he grew up watching. In his free time I likes to watch sports, spend time outdoors, and eat.
Dan Corey is, perhaps, best known for continuing to use a traditional, flip-style cellular telephone.
