One killed in hotel shootout in Urbandale

URBANDALE - One person is dead after an officer-involved shootout in a local hotel early Saturday morning.

Officers were responding to a drug complaint at the Holiday Inn, 4800 Merle Hay Road in Urbandale, just after 4:00 a.m Saturday when the altercation occurred.

According to Sergeant Gary Lang, with the Urbandale Police Department , officers confronted three individuals in the lobby of the hotel.

"A scuffle began with one of the individuals. That person was in possession of a handgun and fired it during the scuffle. Officers returned fire and that individual was struck and succumbed to the injuries," said Lang.

The incident remains under investigation.
