Ames "Accidental" Shooting Leaves One Male Dead

AMES - Ames Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Thursday morning.

Police said they received a call a little after 6 a.m. about a shooting at 206 West Date Court. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Individuals who were at the residence at the time of the shooting described it as an accident. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members. While the investigation continues, there does not appear to be any ongoing danger to the public. No charges have been filed at this time; however the Ames Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate.
