DES MOINES - A house is Des Moines is ready to be demolished. But it's getting a fresh coat of paint first.

One artist is bringing a bright spot to an area of Des Moines by painting an abandoned home on East 9th street. It's all set up by a local organization called, "Community Housing Initiatives." They bring artists in from all over the country to work on these projects. Local 5 spoke to him about why he does this.

"We're trying to use these houses as an opportunity to essentially practice some of their work, but to also bring kind of a spot of positivity to the neighborhood," said Brian Bananno with the CHI group.

The artists said overall, they've received a good reception from the people that have stopped by to check out the work. They plan on working on another home in Des Moines next week.
