ALTOONA - The Adventureland Inn may be a central Iowa staple, but after one family found bed bugs they say they won’t be coming back.
“I have never experienced this, I have never seen a bed bug and I have never had one,” said Jennifer Schenck.
Schenck said she was celebrating her nephew’s birthday when the next day her brother made the nasty discovery
“My brother was getting up when he saw it crawling on the pillow. He called the front desk and the lady who was working came to the room, put it in a bag, took it with her and they left,” said Schenck.
She isn’t the only one complaining about bed bugs. On Facebook one mother posted a picture of her daughter covered in bites. She stayed at Adventureland Inn last week.
However people in the area say the Inn is a great place and can’t believe something like this happened there.
“It is a great area and I hope they do something to make it better,” said one area resident.
Local 5 reached out to the hotel staff and received the following statement
“We preventatively inspect sleeping rooms daily, and it is unfortunate that this occurrence was missed. Bedbugs are a hotel industry wide issue that every property must deal with.”
Schenck says she received a refund from the hotel, but hopes they take extra steps so something like this doesn’t happen again. She also adds that pest control will be checking her house tomorrow if they find bed bugs she will be sending Adventureland Inn a bill.
