Des Moines hosts national rabbit competiton

DES MOINES - Some furry friends are visiting the Iowa State Fairgrounds this weekend.

The American Federation of New Zealand Rabbit Breeders held its 2018 Californian Spring National Competition in Des Moines this weekend.

Local rabbit owners were able to enter their own animal for a three dollar fee.

People could also enter rabbit furs to be judged.

“We look for the most consistent three rabbits between the group, so we have to weigh them all, check their toenails, teeth, anything you can visibly see on the rabbit,” says rabbit judge Michelle Wojcik.

This rabbit show travels all over the country. Their next stop is in Wisconsin.

The show has plans to return to the fairgrounds again in 2019.
