DES MOINES – Drake University held a gala to celebrate the completion of a major fundraising project.
More than 350 of Drake's top supported gathered inside the Knapp Center. Since the fundraising started back in 2010, more than 22,000 alumni and community members donated more than $216 million.
That money will now go toward the school's endowment, and some of it has already been applied to improving the university.
"Trying to make a Drake education accessible and affordable, and also to enhance the learning experience and the learning environment,” said John Smith, vice president of alumni and development for Drake University.
The evening featured an a capella performance, dinner and keynote speeches from several distinguished faculty members and alumni.
