Employees trained for emergency situations

WEST DES MOINES - In Iowa, it's required that businesses train their employees on how to handle emergencies.

What do you do if you find yourself in an active shooter situation? That’s the kind of emergency that businesses are trained to be able to handle.

West Des Moines leaders watched a virtual intruder response video to help understand what happens during a shooting. In the past, the message was run, hide, fight. Now the message is lock out, get out and take out.

"The three-out model is a model that you're going to pick whatever out is appropriate based on your location in relation to the threat,” said Vaughn Baker, president of Strategos International.

"When you have confidence and you know what to do if you're in a situation so you can prevail, you're anxiety completely diminishes,” said Bob Chonka, co-owner of Sollah Interactive.

Chonka says that having this training is not only beneficial in the workplace, but it's something you can use now no matter where you are.
