DES MOINES - The former head of the Iowa Democratic Party is running for governor.
Dr. Andy McGuire formally announced her bid for governor in a campaign video released Monday. Her theme: fix it. McGuire details in the ad that Iowa has a lot of problems in its government, and she aims to fix them if elected governor. She says she'll fix the issues with leadership and progressive change.
McGuire said she plans to invest in schools, raise wages, and improve the quality and affordability of health care to all Iowans.
Nowhere in the ad does it mention McGuire's tenure as chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party, or that she was chair during the 2016 elections, when Democrats lost several major seats both in state and federal races.
