Home burglars caught on camera

URBANDALE - Two burglars who busted through the backdoor of a home in Urbandale were caught on camera.

The robbery happened just before 8 p.m. at a home on Briarwood Lane. Investigators say the lights were on in the home when the pair broke through a glass patio door.

Local 5 spoke to the homeowner who says he was attending a funeral the day of the break in.

"We were out of the house around 11 a.m. My wife looked at her phone and noticed that the motion sensors were triggered. I immediately called police and drove to the home but by then they were gone, said Steven Baccam.

Surveillance cameras caught the burglars in action. The video shows one man sorting through things on a shelf, while the other holds what appears to be a safe with items worth thousands of dollars. Seconds later, the duo noticed the cameras and shut them off, but by then it was too late.

Neighbors in the area say they are shaken up and will take extra precautions to make sure something like that doesn't happen to them.

"We will be getting security cameras and motion sensors," said one area resident.

Anyone who can identify the men captured on video is asked to call Urbandale police at 515-252-8251.
