ANKENY - Just because it's the middle of winter doesn't mean you can't take time to enjoy some fishing. That's what many did Sunday in Ankeny at the DMACC pond.
Angler equipment was available to rent with free hot dogs and hot chocolate provided. Those that took in some fishing said no matter the time of year, it's never to cold to try and catch the big one. They said it's a skill that's worth learning no matter your age.
"We have the electronics, we have volunteers here who are experts in ice fishing, who are guiding the families and kids. And they can get in the hut if they get cold. And we've got heaters going The whole idea is to accommodate them and get them and hopefully encourage them so they'll be out here fishing during the winter," said Raymond Morley.
Make sure to check the ice conditions before you head out to stay safe.
