DES MOINES- If you passed by Gray's Lake Saturday morning you might've been wondering why there were so many row boats out there.
Well.. it was because of the Iowa Game's annual rowing event! The races were 1,000 meter sprints. Teams with as few as two people or much larger could join the races. Rowers competed while families and spectators watched and cheered them on from the shoreline.
"Its really exiting because we have, um, between last year and this year we have doubled the number of rowers who are participating in the rowing event and, um, its exiting that the sport of rowing as grown so much across the state," says Iowa Games Catherine Elsenbast.
Rowers started heats as early as 8 am and the event wrapped up around 4pm. That's when first, second and third place would be awarded medals.
