Iowa State Patrol holding blood drive challenge

FORT DODGE - An Iowa State Patrol trooper in Fort Dodge has issued an agency-wide challenge for the next year: donating blood.

Trooper Mark Anderson proposed a blood drive challenge after seeing numerous accidents during his time as a traffic investigator. Anderson's patrol office in Fort Dodge participated in their portion of the blood drive Tuesday, with a traveling plaque to be given to whichever patrol district donates the most blood.

17 donors participated Tuesday in Fort Dodge, with seven being first-time donors. The state patrol says enough blood was donated to save 42 lives. The Iowa State Patrol says troopers like Anderson "know the reality of blood shortage" in the state.
