Iowa's Maddie Poppe moves into top 14 on American Idol

Iowa native Maddie Poppe has advanced to the top 14 on ABC's American Idol.

Poppe sang "Bubbly" as a duet with Colbie Caillat during Monday night's show.

From the small Butler County town of Clarksville, Poppe has had a guitar in her hands since a young age, with a dad who was in a local rock band.

"That's one thing that I think works to my advantage that some of the other contestants don't have", Poppe says. "Some of them have never played a gig before. But I've done like hundreds in front of different crowds of all sizes."

American Idol airs on Local 5 at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday nights. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite artists starting next week via the American Idol app or ABC website
