Local 5 On Your Side - Helping with Storm Cleanup

Some Advice for Removing Trees and Limbs

(URBANDALE) - RTS Tree Service in Clive told Local 5 that it's worth your time to check out your home owner's insurance policy to see what kind of damage is covered under your policy. Occasionally policies will cover downed tree limbs in your yard.

R.J. Uttenreuther said you are *not responsible if one of your tree limbs or trees falls into your neighbor's yard. Legally your responsibility ends at your lot line.

He siad it's important to shop around for the best service. "Don't be afraid to get multiple bids. Make sure they're insured. They should have no problem giving you an insurance binder to prove they are insured."

Uttenreuther says it's also a good idea to regularly keep your trees trimmed and thinned out so when strong winds come through they blow through your tree, instead of knocking it down.
