Man caught driving 111 mph in a 25 mph zone

SLATER - The Story County Sheriff's Office released dashcam video showing a driver zooming through a 25 mph zone at 111 mph.

Melvin Dameron, of Des Moines, ran through a stoplight on Highway 210, according to authorities.

Police also add that the pursuit went on for several minutes.

"When you are going at a high rate of speed such as that individual was you'd have no time to react if something came in front of you  and ultimately somebody can end up killed," said Capitan Barry Thomas.

Local 5 obtained a criminal complaint which shows that Dameron was charged with eluding, reckless driving, excessive speed and failing to obey a stop sign.

"If I was there with my daughter we could have been hit and could have died. He should not be on the road especially driving that fast," said one area resident.

Dameron could face a $645.00 fine in addition to losing his driving privileges.

The Story County Sheriff's Office said that deputies will be cracking down on speeding in the area to keep people in Slater safe.
