STATE CENTER – Marshall County authorities have arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his father.
According to the sheriff’s department, police were called to 401 5th Street SW around 6:15 p.m. Saturday. When they got there, the department says a deputy found Randy Wengert, 70, lying in the yard with a severe stab wound.
Wengert was treated by medics and then taken to a Marshalltown hospital. Then, he was taken to a Des Moines trauma center.
The sheriff’s office says, after checking on Randy, they escorted Wengert’s wife safely out of the house.
The sheriff’s office says deputies arrested Wengert’s son, Brian, 44, after a brief struggle. Wengert is charged with attempted murder, obstruction of emergency communications, domestic assault and possession of methamphetamine. He’s being held on a $25,000 cash only bond.
Authorities believe no additional suspects were involved.
