A bill introduced this week would not require Iowans to have a permit to carry a weapon.
Senator Rick Bertrand from Sioux City said, "If you want to carry a gun and you want to protect your home and you're legal and you're not a felon, you have the ability to protect yourself and not have to go out and spend money and do the permit."
The bill sponsored by Senator Bertrand has been through subcommittee. He thinks it will pass through committee later this week and be debated on the senate floor.
We reached out to senate democrats who didn't want to respond until the floor debate.
