They're well armed and ready to protect themselves in Des Moines.
More women are taking an interest in learning how to shoot guns in the metro.
Just a few days ago the local chapter of "The Well Armed Woman" group met for the first time. The chapter is part of a national organization that aims to empower and educate women about guns.
Leaders say there's at least 40 women showing interest in the group already.
"Some have never held a gun, some have been involved in military or police there's quite a variety," said the group's co-leader Libby Young.
Crossroads Shooting Sports in Johnston says they are also seeing a influx in women's customers.
"Sadly in our changing world, more people are wanting to become personally empowered to be more in control," said Tom Hudson with Crossroads. "I think that touches women more than men."
There are now five "The Well Armed Woman" chapters in Iowa. For more information about the group, click here.
