AMES - Plans are in the works to tear down the current high school and build a new one. The new board will decide whether or not that plan moves forward.
The superintendent told Local 5 the current high school needs millions of dollars in fixes, and is outdated for a number of reasons.
Dr. Tim Taylor said, "These things are way too important in my opinion, making decisions relative to Ames kids says to me we should get a lot more than that."
Dr. Taylor said the new school can be funded through a bond and the district wont need to increase property taxes. He says the newly elected school board will be looking at a referendum next April.
