DES MOINES - A new law allows Iowans registering to vote on election day to provide proof of residency in an electronic form.
The announcement comes from the Secretary of State.
This is going to primarily be impacting college students here in the state of Iowa.
When you go to vote at the polls right now, you need an ID and proof of residency.
This means you need to show your utility bill, a bank statement or paycheck in hard copy.
Now, the new law that was signed by Gov. Reynolds allows you to show them on your phone, making the process to register easier.
Secretary Pate says he did this mainly for college students as a push to get that demographic to vote.
