Planned Parenthood Plans to Fight Abortion Bill

20 Week Abortion Ban Heads to Governor

(STATEHOUSE) -In addition to not allowing abortions after 20 weeks, the bill that passed through the legislature also outlaws abortions in cases of rape and incest.

The law will also prohibit a woman from getting an abortion if the fetus won't survive.
But the legalities all fall on the doctor, women will not face penalties for these abortions.

There is one exception if a woman wants an abortion after 20 weeks. Senator Mark Chelgren, a republican from Ottumwa, said if a mother's life or the life of the baby is in danger an abortion can be performed.

The bill also says a woman must wait 72 hours to have an abortion after telling her doctors she wants the procedure in case she changes her mind.
