Public pianos to be installed in Ames parks Thursday

AMES - Two Ames parks will host public pianos beginning this weekend. As part of the Ames Public Piano Project, the Parks and Recreation Department will assist in installation of pianos in Tom Evans Plaza and Campustown Court.

Painted by volunteers and weather-proofed with protective coatings, the pianos will be available for public use throughout the summer. Patricia Izbicki, a graduate student at Iowa State University, led the project to promote the joy of music making and benefits of music on the brain.

The piano in Tom Evans Plaza will be unveiled on Friday, June 2 from 6:30 to 7 p.m. during the Art Walk. The piano in Campustown Court will be unveiled on Saturday, June 3 from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at Summerfest.
