DES MOINES, Ia. - UPDATE (9:40pm)-
Former President George W. Bush had to cancel his event in Des Moines Saturday because of issues at the airport.
Travelers tell us they were confused by the situation, and that they were not made aware of the delays until they arrived at the airport.
According to the airport's website, many of the flights are back on schedule as planned.
Officials with the Des Moines International Airport tell Local 5 that some flights have been delayed or cancelled Saturday afternoon.
The delays come after a crew noticed a portion of the runway buckling due to heavy rain.
Local 5 was told an airport operations crew did an inspection and noticed portions of the tarmac buckling, which could have presented a potential hazard.
Officials say they're not sure how many flights were affected, but that they expect operations to be back up and running by 6:30pm on Saturday.
Local 5 has a crew at the airport. We will have more information as it becomes available.
