UPDATE: A 22-year-old from Ames has been charged with carrying a gun at DMACC's Boone Campus.
Boone Police Officers, with the assistance of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to the Boone DMACC Campus Wednesday night on the report of a studnet in possession of a handgun.
Upon arrival, responded to the area where the student was reported to be and removed him from the classroom. The student was found to be in possession of a semiautomatic handgun which he had secured in the waist band of his pants. The student said he had a permit to carry and did not know he could not carry the handgun on school grounds. The student did have a permit to carry issued through Story County. At no time was the public in danger.
The student has been identified as Boyang Xu, and has been charged with Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds.
BOONE - A student brought a gun to the DMACC campus Wednesday night, according to school officials. Now that student is suspended.
According to an email sent to all DMACC staff, they got a report of a student "possibly having a gun on his person on campus...the student was removed without incident by Boone PD, who had arrived minutes after the call."
School officials did not know the status of the student, if he was in jail or not Wednesday night. The student was removed by campus in handcuffs. The gun was real.
The student is suspended for violating the DMACC policy against weapons on campus.
