WEST DES MOINES - A West Des Moines man is celebrating a major milestone: his 100th birthday.

Sam Brunk was honored Monday with a birthday party at the Westside Senior Center in Valley Junction.

He has a son and daughter, two grandsons and six great grandchildren.

Sam was a truck driver -- who said he never got in an accident. He's actually still driving now.
And to keep himself busy, he has a hobby: turning in cans and bottles for cash.

"I've thought that, for myself, is that you gotta move 'cause this sitting down is no good. I'm one that don't sit still. I'm moving and I'm always doing things that people tell me I shouldn't," he said.

Sam's wife just passed away three years ago. They had been married 73 years.

Mr. Brunk was born in 1916 -- in the middle of World War I.  Woodrow Wilson was the president.
