Valley Church hosts Great Pumpkin Party

Monday night was devoted to families with children with special needs

WEST DES MOINES - Hundreds of families gathered at Valley Church for the Great Pumpkin Party.

The annual event is spread out over three days, but Monday night was specifically for families with children with special needs.

Kids just put on their non-scary costumes and were free to roam. Guests could take pony rides, play games, watch shows and of course enjoy lots of candy.

Those who stopped by say it's a really great, safe place for the whole family to enjoy.
"It's a place where they can come and enjoy things on their level, on their speed, and even there's chaos but it's at least controlled enough that these kids can still enjoy it," said Jared Roy.

"She sees a lot of her friends here and to be able to volunteer and give back and know that its always about somebody else. Its never about ourselves and just showing the love of god through everything we do here."

In total, about 6,000 people are expected to visit the Great Pumpkin Party over the next three days. On Monday, almost 200 volunteers were there to help make it all happen.
