WEST DES MOINES - Halloween is just a day away but that did not stop the festivities from beginning early.
Valley Junction's Pumpkin Walk on Sunday gave families an opportunity to get out and show their costumes off, collect candy, play games and visit numerous shops in Valley Junction. It was an opportunity that one family said is a great alternative.
Des Moines resident Caryline Clark said, "I think it's better for the kids to be out in the daylight and little ones-you know-go to bed early so we probably won't partake in real trick or treating, so this awesome for the community to come out and have an alternative."
Nearly 500 people were expected to attend the Pumpkin Walk this year making it a great community event.
One crafter, Angie Fisher said, "It's always great when families can participate in enjoyable events together kind of stress free and have some fun so it's very meaningful for us to be involved in the community in this way."
