Des Moines Parks and Recreation is seeking the public’s help in cleaning up Gray's Lake after the floods.
Volunteers aged 18 and up are needed Tuesday, June 30, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Wednesday, July 1, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. to help pick up sticks, trash and other light duties. All hand tools are provided and no pre-registration is required. Participants are asked to check in at the terrace building/concession stand.
Volunteers were out Monday.

"Well since I use it every day, I thought I should at least come by to help,” said Michael Peterson of Windsor Heights. “I’m one of the people actually using it and it's free for me, so it's probably my job to help clean up."

“Our team is stretched very thin and we rely very heavily on our volunteer resources throughout the year,” said Benjamin R. Page, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Gray’s Lake is one of Des Moines’ most popular destinations and we are hoping that all of those residents who have such a special place in their heart for this facility will come out and help us for even just a few hours. The more help we can recruit, the sooner the park will open for the public to enjoy.”
