"Good Morning Iowa" Anchor/Reporter

Chenue Her joined the Local 5 team in 2021 as an anchor on Good Morning Iowa. He became the first Hmong anchorman in Iowa and the country that year.

Chenue is an Emmy Award-winning reporter and Emmy-nominated anchor. His work has also received awards from the Iowa Broadcast News Association.

He’s a veteran journalist, coming to Des Moines from Atlanta, GA where he was a reporter for WXIA, the NBC-affiliate. During his time in Atlanta, Chenue covered several national stories including the 2020 protests, the Atlanta spa mass shootings, as well as the 2020 presidential elections. During the pandemic, Chenue also helped united unemployed Georgians with unemployment claims that got lost in the system.

He also spent several years in Virginia Beach. Chenue was embedded in local and state government, breaking stories on the Virginia political front. While there, he covered the Virginia Beach municipal center mass shooting, the deadly Charlottesville far-right protests, and was on frontline hurricane coverage for multiple hurricanes.

Chenue got his start in news as a reporter in Eugene, OR. 

Chenue is an active member of the Asian American Journalist Association (AAJA). In 2022, he was awarded the “Community Impact Award” for his work advocating for more diversity in journalism and management.

He’s a St. Paul, MN native and proud Hmong-American. In his off time, he enjoys spending time with his close-knit family and collecting sneakers. Chenue loves food! Among his favorite dishes are pho, Hmong sausage, menudo, and candy corn. Being a Minnesotan, he’s also a really sad Timberwolves and Vikings fan.
