WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Dave Downey joined We Are Iowa’s Most Accurate weather team in July of 2021. He’s excited to be back home in the Midwest forecasting and chasing all the wild weather in America’s Heartland.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Dave graduated from the University of Miami in May of 2021 with degrees in Meteorology and Broadcast Journalism.
After tracking the tropics for four years, he’s thrilled to turn from hurricanes to tornadoes and winter storms in central Iowa.
During his time in Miami, Dave was very active in the Hurricane student community, as President of the Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, and Executive Producer of UMTV CanesCast; a biweekly 3-minute weather show Dave pioneered. He was also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
In the Summer of 2020, Dave joined KIMT in Rochester, Minnesota as their morning and mid-day meteorologist, covering a busy severe weather season up until senior year began in August. In April of 2021, Dave joined We Are Iowa’s sister station, KIII, in Corpus Christi, Texas, as their temporary weekend meteorologist.
When he’s not in studio or out telling the science stories of Central Iowa, you can find Dave looking for the next tee time at a local golf course, the gym, or trying all of the illustrious cuisine Des Moines has to offer.
Dave is excited to get started in Des Moines, where the weather is a treat and the people are even better!
