Iowa Wildlife Center releases 'over-wintered' bats at Gray's Lake

More than 30 bats were released on Thursday night. But remember, they are an important part of the ecosystem.

DES MOINES, Iowa — If you stopped by Gray's Lake on Thursday night, you may have seen an unusual sight: bats.

The Iowa Wildlife Center released 34 Big Brown Bats into the wild after months in captivity.

Don't worry though, the bats are an important part of the ecosystem, as they eat mosquitos over the summer months.
