Cat cafe opens in Valley Junction

Customers pay a $10 cover fee, which helps care for the friendly felines as they await their forever home.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Coffee and cats.

For some of you out there, that's all you need in life. And lucky for you, Coffee Cats in the heart of Valley Junction has you covered.

Grab a cup of coffee and hang out with cats provided by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. The hope is that some of the friendly felines will soon be adopted.

"To see the final product is really exciting," said Mary Jankowski, owner of Coffee Cats. "You know, I wasn't sure if it was ever going to happen. But just in the last few months, it definitely looked like it was and we're really happy to be open."

So how does it work?

Customers pay a $10 cover fee for an hour in the cat lounge. That helps the cafe in caring for the 10 to 12 cat while they wait for their forever home.
