Local print shop says sales are down due to coronavirus pandemic

Copycat Prints says that business is down nearly 70 percent.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Copycat Prints is just one of many local businesses feeling the impact being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Owner Ennis Goering says business has been down nearly 70 percent because they rely on Drake faculty and students using their services. And with the courts closed, they've also lost their legal customers. CopyCat has been able to stay open with the help of small business aid but Goering says some days they hardly see a profit.

"I've been a business owner since 1987 and these last 10 months have been pretty tough," said Goering. "You have a lot of hard decisions to make and every time you think you have a plan, you have to pivot."

Copycat Prints has expanded its digital reach to customers and are one of the few shops offering digital fingerprinting. Goering hopes to bring in more business with holiday specials, personalized cards and calendars.
