Wildflower blooming, no wilting, into business expansion

With events back up and running and the demand for fine flower designs on the rise, Maya Boettcher is seeing her business reach new heights.

DES MOINES, Iowa — It's not easy to keep a business growing in this economy, but a Des Moines florist is in full bloom.

Maya Boettcher of Wildflower told Local 5 she got into the business after she was less than impressed with the flowers she was using as an event planner pre-pandemic.

"During the pandemic, the bread and butter of our businesses completely went away, which was events," Boettcher said.

While selling the flowers did not totally make up for lost revenue, it did help Wildflower set up the processes and customer base for when events like in-person weddings and funerals returned.

"Sometimes people walk in and they'll break down into tears because they can't believe that we've paid attention and listen to what their special needs were," Boettcher said.

Wildflower is located at 2718 Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines.
