Iowa Workforce Development looking to keep people informed of job opportunities

The agency dedicated a page solely to work-from-home jobs and created a podcast to keep Iowans updated on current events.

DES MOINES, Iowa — This month, Iowa Workforce Development rolled out more ways for Iowans to stay informed about recent job openings and another way to keep up with what's happening around the state.

The agency did this through dedicating a page on their website solely to jobs that can be done from home, called telework, and creating a podcast called "Mission Employable."

"There's so many opportunities it's just impossible to really know about all of them," IWD Deputy Director Ryan West said.

West told Local 5 the agency created an area specifically for telework jobs because they saw a need for it after multiple employers were asking them to post those types of jobs for them.

"You're going to have about 500 remote jobs at this time pull up[on the website], which is pretty good," he said. "It means there's a lot of opportunities."

IWD believes telework jobs will not only be beneficial to job seekers in the state, but also be beneficial to small Iowa towns.

"It also means for those rural areas we may have opportunities in those communities," West said. "Where you can work somewhere in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, but still be able to help those communities[rural communities] thrive."

In addition to IWD's new job page, they started a new podcast dedicated to providing Iowans with key information about current events and new opportunities.

"It really is just a way to help Iowans get plugged into a career path," West said. "That's really the goal with it ."

New podcasts are released every Tuesday.
