DES MOINES, Iowa — The Internal Revenue Service has pushed the start of the tax-filing season back two weeks later than usual.
The IRS said they needed extra time for additional programming and testing of their systems following the second round of stimulus checks.
Here are three things you can do to get your refund faster, as long as you qualify:
- Make sure you have a way to direct deposit the refund with your bank.
- File your tax return as soon as possible. You can do it online through the IRS free file system as well as with other companies. These groups are accepting tax returns now and will send returns through on Feb. 12.
- Get your documents organized in order to avoid scrambling around for information later on.
Another thing to keep in mind— if you didn't get your first or second stimulus checks and you are entitled to one, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return.
Tax filing season kicks off Feb. 12 and ends April 15.
