Do you want to help sustain Des Moines’ trails? If so, Jen Fletcher with Des Moines Parks and Recreation stopped by Good Morning Iowa to tell us how you do just that by participating in the Mayor’s Annual Ride and Run this weekend.

When you register for the ride or run or both, your contribution will help fund construction of the Des Moines River Trail- Phase 2.

This year’s participants will kick their run and walk with at 8:30am somewhere new, “This year we’re kicking everything off at Principal Park, this is the first year we’ve started down there,” explains Fletcher. “It’s going to be a great facility part of the run and walk goes through the stadium. So you can watch yourself on the videoboard.”

The 5K run and 1-mile family fun walks starts at 9am featuring a route inside Principal Park and shown on the videoboard. Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie will lead the 22-mile ride at 10am.

Your registration includes: an insulated water bottle, refreshments at rest stop and a repair van. If you want to participate in both events it’s an additional $5. You can register online now!
