Dr. Thomas Becker from Pediatric Cardiology at Mercy Children’s Hospital stopped by Good Morning Iowa to talk about the 40th anniversary of the Yucatan Heart Program and the children the program has helped.
Over the last 40 years, the Yucatan Heart Program has provided cardiac care for 1,100 children. This allows them to return to Yucatan and have a second chance at life.
Dr. Becker says, “The big payoff is when you have the opportunity to go back down there, the families can’t wait to show you how great their child is doing. That’s when we get paid really is the joy of seeing how well they are doing.”
