AMES – Presidential contenders are still trying to connect with Iowans in any way they can before the caucuses in January, the most recent way being with a big tailgate party at Jack Trice Stadium Saturday.

Scott Walker and Donald Trump were among the candidates meeting with fans in the lots, as well as Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.

Fans were forgiving of Trump after he erroneously tweeted he was visiting Jack “Truce” Stadium for a football game.

“He probably needs to do his homework, or have his people do his homework a little better,” said Cyclone fan Rob Spading.

Walker was seen making his rounds after a very brief speech at the GOP lot.

“This is a lot of fun,” Walker told Local 5. “I like to have fun. To me this is like tailgating at a Packers game. It’s good Midwestern fun, it’s a good time, it’s a great way to see people and enjoy it.”
