Gov. Kim Reynolds is set to meet with President Donald Trump on Wednesday to discuss Iowa's efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Vice President Mike Pence will also travel to Iowa on Friday to meet with religious leaders, as well as visit Hy-Vee's headquarters to discuss food supply security.
10,404 Iowans have tested positive for the coronavirus and 219 have died as of Tuesday morning.
That's an increase of 12 deaths and 293 positive cases.
Eight counties—Adams, Decatur, Emmet, Fremont, Ida, Lucas, Palo Alto and Ringgold—have yet to report a case.
Negative tests total 52,767 and 3,803 Iowans have recovered.

Additional nursing home test site opening in Dallas County
The Iowa Dept. of Public Health announced they and the National Guard will be opening a temporary testing site Dallas County on Friday.
This testing site will be at the Dallas County Fairground from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. A strike team will be sent to test nursing home staff only. This is not a TestIowa site.
Tests at the site are appointment only and are supported by the long-term care testing strike teams initiative the state is standing up to test nursing staff.
2020 Capital City Basketball League Canceled
Due to COVID-19, the YMCA Capital City Basketball League has canceled its 2020 season.
“Unfortunately, with the uncertainty surrounding when our athletes will return to their respective campuses and general safety concerns for our fans and players, we won’t be able to hold our season this year," league commissioner Derek Hannah announced Wednesday.
2 more staff members, 1 additional resident test positive at state-run facilities
The Iowa Department of Human Services announced that another resident at the Woodward Resource Center has tested positive for COVID-19.
All residents at the site have been tested, according to Iowa DHS.
Two more positive tests for employees at state-run facilities testing positive brings the statewide total to 11.
12 additional Iowa deaths reported
219 Iowans have died from COVID-19, according to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
12 additional deaths reported Wednesday are from the following counties:
- Black Hawk County, 1 elderly adult (81+)
- Clayton County, 1 elderly adult (81+)
- Jasper County, 2 elderly adults (81+)
- Linn County, 1 older adult (61-80 years), 1 elderly adult (81+)
- Marshall County, 1 older adult (61-80 years)
- Muscatine County, 1 older adult (61-80 years),
- Polk County, 3 elderly adults (81+)
- Woodbury County, 1 older adult (61-80 years)
Gov. Reynolds to visit with President Trump
According to a release from Reynolds' office, she will travel to Washington, D.C. Wednesday to meet with President Donald Trump and the White House coronavirus task force.
Hand sanitizer giveaway in downtown Des Moines
The Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market, Iowa Cubs and Cedar Ridge Winery & Distillery are giving away hand sanitizer from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Principal Park in Des Moines.
Participants should enter on Line Drive and will be directed in the Principal Park parking lot to the pick-up location.
Hy-Vee begins limiting meat purchases at all locations
Shoppers at Hy-Vee will be limited to four packages of meat beginning Wednesday.
Hy-Vee issued the following statement:
"We continue to work with industry leaders so we are prepared for any possible fluctuations in product and can best serve our customers. At Hy-Vee, we have product available at our stores but due to worker shortages at plants as well as an increase in meat sales, customers may not find the specific items they are looking for. Because of this, we are going to put a limit on customer purchases in the meat department. Effective Wednesday, May 6, each customer will be limited to four packages of a combination of fresh beef, ground beef, pork and chicken when they checkout at all Hy-Vee locations."
Small business grants now available
Central Iowa small businesses can now apply for grants through a multi-agency partnership.
Grants range from $1,000-$5,000 and applications will be accepted through May 20.
Eligibility requirements:
- Sole-proprietors or businesses with 0 – 30 employees that have had restrictions placed on their operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Examples of businesses include, but are not limited to, retail stores, personal care services and restaurants
- Must have a physical commercial location within the cities of Carlisle, Clive, Des Moines, Indianola, Johnston, Norwalk, Urbandale, West Des Moines or Windsor Heights, unincorporated Polk County or cities/unincorporated areas of Warren County.*
- Must have been in operation since July 1, 2019 or prior.
- Must be a for-profit business of any legal structure (non-profit organizations are not eligible).
*Businesses in other counties will be considered in some cases where cities may cross county lines.
