Half Staff Flag

DES MOINES – Iowa flags will be lowered to half staff Tuesday for a week to honor the five Tennessee soldiers killed in a shooting last week.

Early Tuesday, President Obama issued a proclamation calling for the flags to be lowered at all federal buildings. Gov. Terry E. Branstad says the flags will stay lowered through Monday, July 27 at 8 a.m.

Flags will be at half-staff on the state Capitol building and on flag displays in the Capitol complex, and at all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
