ANKENY – A local police officer is being held responsible after causing a three-car crash. Further investigation showed that it was a result of distracted driving.

Officer Charles Webster rear-ended a vehicle in front of him when it suddenly began to slow down, pushing it into a third vehicle. Webster admitted he was at fault for the accident and said he was distracted.

The entire accident was caught on video, which the police just released. The accident happened back in July.

The chief says Webster was disciplined, but will not say how. He added that the department is working to implement a review committee with experts that can determine when an officer should be cited and any disciplinary action that should be taken.
