Fire breaks out at Valley West Inn Friday morning

UPDATE: As of 6:30 a.m., the occupants at the Valley West Inn hotel that were impacted by a Friday morning early fire have been taken to new rooms.

UPDATE: As of 6:30 a.m., the occupants at the Valley West Inn hotel that were impacted by a Friday morning early fire have been taken to new rooms. 

There were twelve people in all. The fire is fully extinguished, and now investigators are on the scene trying to determine a cause.

A woman and her children were staying in a second room floor where the fire broke out. The woman was injured breaking the glass to the fire alarm system. We are unsure if she was taken to the hospital at this time. The family went uninjured from flames or smoke inhalation.

WEST DES MOINES – Customers at the Valley West Inn had to evacuate Friday morning after a fire at the hotel.

Local 5 has a crew on the scene right now. Fire officials tell us that the fire broke out around 2:50 a.m. West Des Moines, Clive, and Urbandale fire departments all responded to the call. The entire hotel was evacuated. Flames could be seen from the street. It was confined to the second story.

The fire is out now, as of 5 a.m., but crews remain on the scene to put out hot spots.

Polk County Emergency Management is on the scene right now, helping people stay warm.
