AMES – Celia Barquin Arozamena was on her way to becoming a professional athlete this past spring after completing her college golfing career for the Iowa State University Cyclones. This summer, she played in the U.S. Women’s Open in Alabama, a major tournament for the LPGA.

“Our hearts, our prayers and our support go out to Celia, her family and certainly her teammates that are really responding to such a cowardice act of violence,” said Cyclones head football coach Matt Campbell following the news of her death.

Iowa State students will wear yellow in remembrance of Arozamena this Saturday when the Cyclone football team takes on Akron. There will be a special ceremony at the game. Special decals on their helmets will honor Arozamena, and it was planned for Arozamena to be recognized at this weekend’s game for her Female Athlete of the Year honor.
