ALTOONA –  A youth baseball coach has been accused of sexually abusing a minor in his own home.

Altoona Police charged Eric Aguiniga, 38, with sexual abuse after they say he had sex with a 16-year-old. The baseball coach resigned from his position at the Rams Baseball Club two weeks ago. Several locals were shocked by the reports.

Local 5 reached out to the club where Aguiniga is a former board member.

Rams Baseball Club says they are aware of the charges and are waiting for justice to take its course. They say Aguiniga passed a background check prior to joining the club and the charges against him are unrelated to any club activities, players or parents.

Many parents are upset by the accusations against Aguiniga, and are concerned whether or not their kids are safe on the fields. Police are urging parents to stay vigilant.

“Have that relationship and that rapport with your child so that if something ever happens, like a sexual abuse or something that is inappropriate, that those children feel comfortable to come to you,” said Sgt. Alyssa Wilson with the Altoona Police.

The Altoona Police Department said the case is a good reminder for parents to talk to their children about inappropriate behavior.
