UPDATE: Crews from outside of Des Moines and requested contractor crews were called in to assist with line and tree work in the Des Moines metro as reports of storm damage have come in.

MidAmerican Energy is now estimating that most customers should be restored by midnight, and all remaining customers by 7 a.m.

As of 11:30, MidAmerican is currently down to approximately 4,600 customers without service in the Des Moines area (which includes the Des Moines, Knoxville, and Oskaloosa areas). At its peak the number was slightly over 20,000. Most damage is lightning related, and there is also tree-related damage.

Much of the damage is related to lightning strikes, along with extensive tree damage and some wind damage.
