The protests over the Bakken pipeline are still going strong. Some would say they’ve become stronger.
Native Americans from South Dakota came to stand in solidarity with Iowa pipeline protesters. A handful of tribe members from the Sioux nation in North and South Dakota came to stand with Iowa protesters.
The team of protesters stood along Highway E-18 in Boone County. This is all happening near a Bakken pipeline construction site as workers prepare to install the line underneath the Des Moines River.
Law enforcement watched the 175 protesters closely. At one point authorities called in tow trucks to remove cars that were creating a safety hazard.
Construction of the Dakota Access pipeline is nearly complete in South Dakota and Illinois. Iowa and North Dakota are the only two remaining states where construction work is still underway.
