Suspects in custody after SWAT situation near Travis Heights

Both people were detained without incident.

AUSTIN, Texas — The SWAT team responded to a barricaded person call in Central Austin near the Travis Heights neighborhood Monday morning around the 1200 block of Algarita Avenue.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers originally responded to the area due to reports of gunshots. The 911 call came in at around 9:08 a.m.

Police said the incident involved two people. When officers arrived, they saw a woman inside the apartment but she refused to come outside. Shortly after, SWAT arrived and established communication with the people inside, with both individuals eventually exiting without incident.

Officials said two people are now in custody, a male and female in their early 30s. The man is currently facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge and the woman is facing an assault (family violence) charge.

Officials said a gun was involved in this situation and it did not appear that the man was refusing to let the woman come outside.

A shelter-in-place order for the area has been lifted.
